Where is your clinic?
Our clinic is located on our farm in North Gower. We practice in a 4-season yurt, heated in the winter and air-cooled in the summer. For more information about the Yurt Clinic, please click here.
Do you offer direct billing to insurance companies?
Yes! We now offer direct billing to insurance companies via Telus Health. You may have experienced a similar service when you go to the dentist. We input your insurance information to the system and it immediately indicates whether you have coverage, how much coverage, and how much (if anything) you have to pay out of pocket. It's a wonderfully easy system and saves you the time to submit receipts to your insurance company.
Why is it important to blend health care with farming?
Based on the Hippocratic tenet of "let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food", we believe that medicine and farming should be integrated. A solid nutritional foundation is necessary to maintain optimal health, and being able to source fresh, organic, local produce is a significant step to establishing such a foundation. As a result, we are doing our part to contribute to the local food system and educate our patients and customers on the importance of a well-balanced, nutritious diet.
Where can we buy produce?
During the growing season (May-October), we sell our produce via two convenient mediums: CSA Program and at the North Gower Farmers' Market. We are also considering the establishment of a local food co-operative, but that won't likely be until 2016-17.

What is Permaculture?
Permaculture is a system of agriculture that blends the terms Permanent and Agriculture. The concept was created by Australians Bill Mollison and David Holmgren in the 1970s as an alternative to conventional, row-crop farming. Its principles incorporate the laws of nature and its practices encourage integrative agriculture with nature rather than working against it. Permaculture utilizes concepts like gardening zones, companion planting, verticle/forest gardening, and sustainable energy sources.
What is Square-Foot Gardening?
Square-Foot Gardening is an intesive method of produce production in which raised garden beds are divided into multiple square-foot areas. Within each square-foot area, a specific quantity of produce can be grown in order to maximize yields. The purpose of SFG is to minimize space and resource requirements while maximizing growing efficiency and quality. This system integrates well into the concept of permaculture, in that rather than using as much land as possible to maximize yields, we are using the least amount of land possible, thereby preserving the natural environment.
What is naturopathic medicine?
Naturopathic Medicine is a system of medicine rooted in the concept of Vis Medicatrix Naturae: The Healing Power of Nature. Although based on multiple traditional systems of healing, in modern times, Naturopathic Medicine is an evidence-based, scientific system of medicine that incorporates herbalism, dietetics, Traditional Chinese Medicine, counseling, physical medicine and homeopathy into one overall system. Modern naturopathic medicine is now commonly integrated into the conventional medical system.

We are naturopathic doctors that provide medical consultation services by appointment. Within an appointment, you will undergo an in-depth verbal and physical intake, and be treated with any combination of the above mentioned therapies. Please visit the Contact page for more information.
What is Community Acupuncture?
Community Acupuncture is acupuncture conducted in a group setting. An intake is conducted in 10-15 mins and treatment times range from 20-60 mins. Multiple patients are treated simultaneously, thereby reducing the cost for an acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture is a treatment that is most effective when conducted with greater frequency, but in modern acupuncture practices, prices are so high it becomes inaccessible for the average person. The purpose of Community Acupuncture is to make this service more accessible. Unless by personal preference, acupuncture is as effective in a group setting as it would be in a solo setting.
What is a Doula?
A Doula is a service provider for a mother delivering a child. Whereas a midwife's responsibility is the child, the doula's responsibility is the mother. Doulas typically provide pre-birth and post-birth consultation, as well as attending the birth.
Do you offer doula services?
Yes! Dr. Jenn is a DONA-trained doula. She offers direct consultations or doula packages. Jenn also has a naturopathic practice focus in peri-natal care.
THE YURT CLINIC
Why do you practice in a yurt?
The real question is why wouldn't we? For multiple reasons, the yurt was the perfect structure within which to establish a clinic. Made with natural materials, including sheep's wool insulation, most people comment on how comfortable it feels being inside the yurt. With the windows drawn, we have a view to the farm courtyard. In the summer, the skylight can be opened to allow fresh air in. What better way is there to see your doctor?
Is the yurt winter friendly?
Yes. The yurt has insulated walls with an insulated floor and is heated with a 220V electric heater. The temperature can be moderated to your liking, but we typically aim for the average room temperature of 22C.
Is the yurt child friendly?
Yes, by all means. We see patients of all ages and we try to accommodate families with children with toys and/or colouring books if distractions are needed.
Is the yurt wheelchair accessible?
At this time, the walkway leading to the yurt is not ideal for wheelchairs. We are planning to install a ramp in Spring 2016 so we can accommodate wheelchairs.
Do you have a washroom?
We do! An insulated outhouse made with pine boards (they smell great) and a compostable toilet. It feels like using the loo in a sauna and it's certainly not primative like your typical outhouse.
Do you practice by candlelight?
No. The yurt is fully electrfied with 110V and 220V service.
Will I like it in the yurt?
We have no idea but the vast majority of people do. In fact, most people are pleasantly surprised by the uniqueness of being in a circular structure. The only thing that may require some adjustment is the smell of the sheep wool insulation. If you have allergies to wool fibers, do take note that you may have some sensitivity to the fibers of the insulation.
